    Liz Taylor representou o glamour de Hollywood com a sua interpretação de Cleópatra no monumental filme de mesmo título (1963), que punha em cena a sua beleza imaculada e que a tornou uma das atrizes mais solicitadas da época. Sua vida privada, repleta de escândalos, despertou sempre grande curiosidade, com destaque para os seus dois casamentos frustrados com Richard Burton que, como ator, com ela contracenara em Cleópatra e em A Megera Domada (1967). Após a morte de Rock Hudson, que havia trabalhado com Elizabeth em Assim Caminha a Humanidade (1955), abraçou a causa da luta contra a Aids. Em 1993, foi premiada com um Oscar honorário. Já havia recebido a estatueta em 1960 por sua interpretação em Disque Butterfield 8 (O Número do Amor) e, em 1965, por Quem Tem Medo de Virginia Woolf?. Taylor, que ultimamente não tem sido pródiga em suas aparições no cinema (A Maldição do Espelho, 1980, ou O Jovem Toscanini, 1988), publicou suas memórias em 1988.
