    Trabalhou, desde 1913, na revista de Siegfried Jakobsohn "Die Schaubühne", sendo um de seus principais colaboradores até 1933, especialmente a partir de 1918, quando se ampliou o conteúdo da publicação e ou a chamar-se "Die Weltbühne". As suas quase 2.500 críticas, folhetins, esboços satíricos, polêmicas, panfletos, retratos, poemas e canções tornam-no um dos mais destacados escritores satíricos alemães. Em 1929, publicou o livro "Alemanha, Alemanha, Acima de Tudo", com o subtítulo "Um Livro Ilustrado", obra polêmica e satírica completada com fotomontagens, realizadas por John Heartfield, que eram tanto acusadoras como muito reveladoras. Este livro foi considerado um ataque radical contra o militarismo, o sistema capitalista, a justiça de classe e a consolidação de correntes nacionalistas e reacionárias na Alemanha, o que provocou a indignação dos setores mais conservadores. Tucholsky fugiu para a Suécia, escapando aos nazistas, onde finalmente acabaria suicidando-se. Outras de suas obras mais destacadas são:" Rheinsberg" (1912), "Träumereien na preuss Kaminen" (1920) e "Scholz Gripsholm" (1931).
