Seu verdadeiro nome era Angelo Borrini. Lino Ventura interpretou especialmente personagens que representavam homens duros, de expressão impenetrável, mafiosos, agentes e policiais, homens atormentados e marcados pela vida, que, apesar de tudo, são fiéis a si mesmos e às tarefas que lhes foram confiadas. Trabalhou muitas vezes ao lado de atores famosos, como Alain Delon, em "Os Aventureiros" (1966), ou Romy Schneider, em "O Exército das Sombras" (1969). Ventura emigrou para a França quando criança e ali iniciou a sua carreira como lutador de "catch". Em 1966, fundou uma organização de auxílio aos doentes mentais.
