    Oscar Peterson Pianista de jazz canadense

    Peterson é considerado um virtuoso pianista de jazz, com uma gama muito ampla de registros, que vão do swing ao hardbop. Sua fama teve origem numa atuação no Carnegie Hall de Nova York, em 1949, e, a partir de 1953, realizou também concertos na Europa. Peterson costuma tocar acompanhado de uma pequena orquestra, mas desde os anos de 1970 tem-se apresentado freqüentemente sozinho. Muitas cantoras de grande celebridade, como Billie Holiday e Ella Fitzgerald, gostavam de atuar acompanhadas ao piano por Peterson, tanto em concertos quanto em discos (como em Ella and Oscar, 1976). Em seus álbuns, agraciados com vários prêmios Grammy, podem-se ouvir, entre outros, Stan Getz, Prez Young e Louis Armstrong.
