    Filha do ator Henry Fonda, foi lançada, tal como Brigitte Bardot e Catherine Deneuve, pelo diretor Roger Vadim. Dirigida por ele, rodou, entre outros, o filme de ficção científica Barbarella (1968), cujas cenas arrojadas a tornaram uma sex symbol. Jane Fonda superou essa imagem graças a seu empenho político contra a Guerra do Vietnã, a favor dos direitos humanos e com sua participação no movimento de oposição à energia nuclear. Em muitos de seus filmes interpreta o papel de mulheres enérgicas, capazes de se impor (como em Síndrome da China, 1979, e Uma Mulher Implacável, 1979). No início da década de 80 obteve um enorme sucesso com vídeos e livros de aeróbica, os quais tiveram um acolhimento impressionante sobretudo por parte das mulheres. Participou ao lado do seu pai no filme Um Lago Dourado. Jane Fonda recebeu dois Oscar, pela atuação em Klute (1970) e Amargo Regresso (1978).
